Yale-NUS Accessibility Maps
Over the summer of 2021, I facilitated the Yale-NUS College Dean of Students Office (DOS) in researching, mapping and designing the official Yale-NUS Accessibility Maps. Moreover, I conducted field work to research, propose and facilitate the implementation of Campus Accessibility Improvements.
The maps were revamped in May 2023. The most updated maps have been displayed here below. The older maps are available on the Yale-NUS website. There are two Accessibility Maps. One displayed the (i) Accessible Routes, and the other displays (ii) Campus Amenities.
The Routes Map
The Accessibility Routes Map shows the various wheelchair accessible routes on campus - colour coded according to their respective levels.
The map includes the labelling of landmarks and key locations for better navigation and orientation, location of mobility aids - like access elevators, automatic gates, and ramps - and other key information like bus stops and drop off points.
The design language of the Route Map is inspired by the Singapore MRT Map, designed by Samuel Lim. The various levels are colour coded in a gradient (higher levels = darker) and the elevators act as the "interchange" between them.
The Amenities Map
The Campus Amenities Map shows the location of various key amenities on campus, and instructions on how to find/access them.
The amenities map follows the same base map as the routes map, but here the focus is simply on the level and location of key amenities.
These two maps (Routes, Amenities) are meant to be used together - to enable the smooth navigation and access of key locations/amenities on campus.
